Automotive Logistics & Floorplan Lending
Automotive Floorplanning: Eliminating double-pledging via blockchain digital twins
Closing the double-pledging loophole in dealership vehicle inventory financing, without adding manual audit overhead.
The problem
Collateral tracking relies on slow physical lot audits. A dealer under financial strain can pledge the same vehicle VIN to more than one lender in the window before the next audit.
What Chia does
Each vehicle gets one exclusive digital twin record. The lien holder holds the twin, and that twin cannot exist in two places at once.
Where it stands
Pilot completed with a top-five global bank, integrating vehicle location and mileage IoT telemetry.

Situation
Dealership floorplan financing relies on physical audits to confirm that financed vehicles remain unsold on dealer lots. Those audits are costly and periodic, and the gaps between them are window periods in which a vehicle can be sold without immediate reporting, or pledged to a second lender who has no way of knowing the first loan exists.
What we built
Digital twin records
One record per vehicle
Manufactured vehicles receive on-chain digital twin records linked to restricted data vaults that only authorized lenders can read.
Exclusivity engine
Holding the twin is the lien
The ledger's structural consensus prevents duplicate liens, rather than leaving duplication for a compliance team to detect after the fact.
IoT telemetry
Auditing between sales events
Live GPS location and odometer data stream directly into the digital twin record, keeping the loan honest between financing events.
Impact
Lenders verify unencumbered title ownership instantly by checking their own asset vault, instead of requesting dealer declarations or dispatching physical auditors. The approach is structural rather than procedural: it eliminates double-pledging risk outright and sharply reduces multi-million dollar annual audit budgets.
