Introducing Chia Blockchain Database BitTorrent Checkpoints

by Justin England

I’m excited to share that, moving forward, we’ll provide quarterly database checkpoints as part of our ongoing release improvements. You can access these checkpoints via BitTorrent, the peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol our founder Bram Cohen invented. Checkpoints are the first step to a better peer-to-peer sync model.

What does this mean for you? You’ll have secure access to an up-to-date version of our blockchain database. The checkpoint will enhance your transaction’s security and reliability and improve the speed and efficiency of the blockchain. It will also offer everyone more accessible onboarding, getting nodes into a synced and farmable state.

We are excited to roll out this new feature and want your feedback to continue innovating and improving the ecosystem for everyone! If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact our team on Discord

This is the first step along a much longer road that will integrate this feature into the functionality of the reference client eventually. For now, users will need to move their database files that they acquire from this path manually into place. But this should be a far more expedient and far more efficient way to get new farmers started with the blockchain.
